A Lavender Bag Tutorial……..

Happy Saturday J

I thought that this would make a great beginner project…. it combines simple patchwork and straight stitch.
So let’s get started!

Supplies
1.       ½ meter of patterned fabric

2.       ¼  meter of plain fabric (you will have a some left over)

3.       Button

4.       Matching or contrasting thread

5.       Lavender for stuffing

Cutting and stitching the bag.

1.       Cut  1  6 ½” x 6 ½” square for the back of the bag, using the patterned fabric

2.       Cut  2 3 ¾” squares from the plain fabric

3.       Cut 2 3 ¾” squares from the patterned fabric

4.       Pin and stitch the four squares together, with right sides together (leaving ½ “ seam allowance, use the side of you walking foot)

5.       Lay the patched font on top of you back piece, with right sides together, pin and stitch (leaving ½” seam allowance)

6.       Carefully cut a triangle, off each of the bottom squares ( this creates crisp corners) *** be careful not to cut into the stitches***

7.       Turn right sides out and press

8.       Inset the lavender, so that the bag is roughly half full

9.       Carefully topstitch all around the edges, making sure you close the opening as you go.

10.   Add a button to the centre of the lavender bag..

Finished !!
Additional ideas (using the same tutorial)

1.       You could make a bigger version as a small cushion.

2.       Instead of using lavender, use stuffing to make a pin cushion.

Hope you enjoy this tutorial…
I was thinking about starting a “polkadot-Pretties” flickr page, so you can upload pictures of your finished products, using my tutorials… i would love to see how your projects…. let me know what you think to this idea? Would you use it?

Tomorrow is the last day to enter this giveaway……
